Awards Germany - German States - Saxony - Kingdom

After the defeat of Jena Auerstedt, Napoleon occupied the Elector of Saxony. Saxony had to join the Rhine Union. After Württemberg and Bavaria, Saxony also received royal dignity from Napoleon I. On December 20, 1806, Frederick Augustus became king of Saxony, and then Poland. Earlier kings in Poland were electors of Saxony. From 1697, probably the most famous Augustus the Strong ruled until 1733. After the victory over Napoleon at the Vienna Congress of 1815, a decision was made to divide the kingdom. With the forced accession of Prussia to the North German Union in 1866, Saxony lost its state independence and in 1871 became part of the German Empire.
The kings were:
  • Frederick Augustus I (1806-1827)
  • Anton (1827-1836)
  • Frederick Augustus II. (1836-1854)
  • Johann (1854-1873)
  • Albert (1873-1902)
  • Georg (1902-1904)
  • Frederick Augustus III. (1904-1918)

The last king, Frederick Augustus III, was forced to abdicate on November 13, 1918. Thereafter, Saxony was a free state in the Weimar Republic.
