This commemorative cross was instituted by King Albert on 20 March 1874. The occasion was the 25th anniversary of the assault on the Duppel springboards on April 13, 1849. This cross was received by all officers, doctors, non-commissioned officers, soldiers and military officials who, during the 1849 campaign in Holstein, belonged to the Saxon contingent and showed themselves with dignity. The Saxon units consisted of a brigade and two regiments of infantry, a rifle battalion, a cavalry regiment, two batteries of 6 and 12 pounds, respectively, and a pioneer unit. Servicemen who have already left the service can make their claims. Appropriate evidence, such as a resignation certificate and a certificate of leadership, should be provided. Source: J.
