This commemorative cross was presented by King Johann on 22 May 1867. All fighters and non-fighters who took part in the war against Prussia were awarded. Saxony fought on the side of Austria, Bavaria, Württemberg and their allies - the German Union. The victory of the Prussian allies led to Prussian dominance in Germany. Many individual states concluded a military convention with Prussia. Austria said goodbye to all-German politics and the North German Union was created.
Crosses for fighters and non-fighters differ only in the award ribbon. Fighters have 4 yellow and 3 blue stripes, non-combat - 3 yellow and 4 blue stripes.
A light bronze cross with slightly inward curved cross sleeves at the ends. Cruciform shoulders with raised smooth edges, insides finely granular. Front and back with a round, embossed middle shield. Between each cross arm, a triangle-shaped beam of radiation together forms a square. On the upper cruciform shoulder there is a wide ear. A double (notched) small connecting ring with a bandage ring is mounted in it.
