This service award was presented on September 6, 1913, along with the 2nd and 3rd. It was founded by King Frederick Augustus III. It replaced the service award of 1874, which was valid until that time. 1st class was now awarded in cruciform. Work experience for the 1st grade was changed from 21 to 15 years. The 2nd grade, with a changed appearance, continued to be awarded a medal after 12 years instead of 15 years of service. 3rd grade continued to be awarded after 9 years of service. The cross was received by non-commissioned officers at the end of 15 years of service in the army. Persons who have already received a senior service award and were still in the service could exchange it for a new cross. Retired servicemen could purchase the cross at their own expense. Crosses were made of bronze, copper or military metal. Crosses without gilding. The service reward was subject to return upon death. Survivors could purchase them after reimbursement .
The cross is copper or bronze gilded. 3-line wishbones, inner sides smooth. Front and back sides with a round central shield. (14 mm) On the upper cruciform shoulder, a soldered ordinary eye with a ribbon ring.
