Landwehr awards were established by King Albert on April 23, 1874. The award was presented in 2nd grade. 1st class was awarded unchanged as a cross from 1874 to 1918. 2nd class was awarded as a buckle from 1874 to 1913. Since 1913, the 2nd grade was issued in the form of a medal.
1st class was awarded to officers who voluntarily remained in military service for at least 6 years after the full required service period and earned themselves a sense of duty and interest in service. Previously obtained 2. The class had to be left. For the 2nd grade, a repeated call from vacation or when participating in a campaign could be provided after 3 months.
Crosses of the 1st class were made of silver. Middle shields were minted in gold and placed separately. From the beginning of World War I, medallions began to be made of silver.
Silver cross. The transverse arms are smoothly edged with 3 thin lines at the edges. Front and back with a raised, gold middle shield. On the upper cruciform shoulder is a soldered ordinary eye with a ribbon ring.
