The Landwehr Award was established on August 1, 1874 by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II. From 1874 to 1913 it was awarded in the form of a buckle. From 1913 the buckle was replaced by a copper medal. Non-commissioned officers and soldiers who unquestioningly performed their duty in reserve and landver and participated in at least one campaign were awarded. The same was the case if soldiers were called to active duty for at least 3 months for an exceptional reason. Reserve and Landwehr officers under the military convention received the Prussian Landwehr service award of the 1st class. There are also gold bronze or gilded bronze medals. But these are not donated copies. Source: J. Nimmergut, Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen bis 1945, vol. II, 1997.
