Along with service awards for officers, service awards were established for non-commissioned officers and maneuvers. These crosses were introduced on 30 April 1841 by Grand Duke Paul Frederick. Awards were issued for 25, 20, 15 and 10 years. On the one hand, they differ in the number on the back and the material of the front central shield. On the cross for 25 years, the central shield was gilded, at 15 and 20 years of silver, and at 10 years of copper. The middle shields are each 17 mm in size and have been minted and soldered separately. Source: J. Nimmergut, Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen bis 1945, vol. II, 1997.
