The foundation of the Military Order of St. Henry dates back to 1736, when it was founded as the Knight Military Order of St. Henry. His name is Henry II. (973-1024) the last emperor from the Saxon house. It was founded in 1146 by Pope Eugene III. canonized. On August 25, 1768, the order was recreated or renewed as the "Elector" order, established by Prince Xaver as administrator for Frederick Augustus III. By that time, the order consisted of 3 classes, the Grand Cross, Commander, Knight and Small Cross, respectively. This fund was renewed on July 1, 1796 by the elector himself. The military order of St. Henry was established as the royal Saxon order after King Anton conferred royal dignity on December 23, 1829. The order received instead of the princely hat now the royal crown. The order now consists of 4 classes: Grand Cross, Commander 1. (with breast star) and 2. Class and knight. Since 1796, the gold and silver medals "For Military Merit" were awarded as 5th class. the order was subject to return both at death and at promotion. The order is the oldest military order in Germany and the highest Saxon award for bravery. In addition to this order, other awards were not allowed to wear. Knightly crosses have been awarded 3,450 times.
Eight-pointed gold or gilded cross. Front and back sides with superimposed round medallion. On the upper cruciform shoulder there is a bearing graph in the form of sheets, to which a gilded movable crown with a ribbon ring is attached. Cruciform shoulders with a wide white enameled border. Between the crosses are parts of a green enameled diamond crown. There are three parts in the center of each sheet, half a sheet to the right and left.
