The order was established on 23 April 1874 by King Albert. Officers were eligible after 25 years of service in the Saxon Army. Wartime was considered double. On April 21, 1914, the award rules were changed. Now even officials and soldiers could receive a cross from the sergeant major down after 25 years. Throughout the award period, the cross retained the same shape. Cruciform hands were minted smoothly. There are crosses with separately embossed and co-embossed middle shields. Crosses with finely grainy cross-shaped sleeves are also known. The manufacturer of the crosses was the city of Scharffenberg, Dresden.
Gilded bronze cross. Triple line fields. The inner sides of the crosses are smooth. Front and rear with 16mm central shield. On the upper cruciform shoulder is a soldered ordinary eye with a ribbon ring.
