Service awards to the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen were established on 17 December 1852 by Duke Bernhard II. donated. The officers received the cross after 25 years of innocent service. For non-commissioned officers and soldiers, service awards were established in 3 classes. They were buckle-shaped and awarded after 24, 16 and 8 years of service. The 1st class was a bronze gilt buckle, the 2nd class a silver buckle, and the 3rd class was assigned as a black iron buckle with a silver rim. The war years, as usual, were counted doubly. Also, members of a small corps of couriers in the duchy had the right to receive. With the conclusion of a military convention with Prussia in 1867, the award ceased. Due to their small contingent and short lifespan, these awards are very rare.
Gilded bronze cross. Crosses with raised smooth edges. The inner sides of the cruciform sleeves are fine-grained. Front and back with dissolved round middle shields. On the upper cruciform shoulder is a soldered ordinary eye with a ribbon ring.
