This cross was donated by King Frederick Augustus III during the World War on October 30, 1915 to recognize special domestic merits. The award was provided for such merits in the war that did not yet justify a higher award. The cross was supposed to fill that gap. Persons who had already received high military awards could not be awarded. Upon subsequent awarding with a high military award, the cross was to be returned. The award was presented with a diploma. Military Merit Cross between Officer's Cross and Order of Albrecht 1st Class with Crown. There are crosses with and without a punch - S - from the manufacturer. With punch, crosses cost about twice as much.
Bronze cross in the shape of Albrecht's cross. Front and rear with a 9mm central shield. Raised-edge wishbones. The inner sides are smooth. There is a laurel wreath between the cross sleeves at a distance. On the upper cruciform shoulder is a decoration with an ear and a belt ring.
