Kingdom of Württemberg
The Kingdom of Württemberg arose as a sovereign kingdom on the initiative of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in 1806 from the Duchy of Württemberg. Greatly expanded thanks to the Peace of Presburg, the Duchy of Württemberg almost doubled its size.
After the war of 1870/71 and the coronation of William I, the kingdom joined the empire under Prussian leadership as a member state.
The kings were:
  • Frederick I - 1806-1816
  • William I - from 1816 to 1864
  • Karl - from 1864 to 1891
  • Wilhelm II - from 1891 to 1918

As a result of the defeat of Germany in World War I and the November Revolution in 1918, King William II abdicated. Württemberg on his throne and abdicated. Württemberg was transformed into a parliamentary democracy and remained within the German Empire in the Weimar Republic as a free state.
In 1952, the former kingdom of Württemberg was formed in Baden-Württemberg.
