This award was presented in honor of Queen Charlotte (pulled out of the house of Schaumburg-Lippe) by King William II.
The cross was awarded to persons, without distinction of class, who deserved to take care of the wounded or sick or distinguished themselves by other merits that served the war.
By the end of the war, crosses were not made of silver, but of an alloy with a silver content of no more than 50%.
A cross of silver with straight isosceles cross sleeves flowing out at the ends, like 3 leaf clovers. The edges are framed by a recessed line at a short distance. In the center front and back, a round central sign (13 mm). On the upper cruciform shoulder is a relief angular ear with a small ring and a belt ring.
