The gold medal of the order was established by orders of August 11 and September 1, 1892. He directed that the former Civil Merit Gold Medal remain associated with the Order of the Crown. She received the new designation "Medal of Merit of the Order of the Crown." The silver medal "For Merit" retained its status and became an independent award.
The medal was issued until 1907 in gold with a purity of 900/1000. Later in 585èr Gold. By the end of the war, starting in October 1916, due to a lack of material, it was produced only with a gold content of 8 carats (about 1/3). Silver medals with gilding are also known. Medals were minted on the main Stuttgart coin according to the stamps of the medalist Karl Schwenzer.
