After the Peace of Pressburg in 1805, Baden was elector. The rulers came from the Tseringen line. With the accession to the Rhine Union, Baden also became a grand duchy. The national colors are yellow and red, the coat of arms is a griffin (holding the coat of arms). The capital was Karlsruhe. Baden fought on the side of Napoleon against the allied armies until the battle of the peoples near Leipzig. Despite this, at the Congress of Vienna, Grand Duke Charles was able to ensure the continued existence of the country and Baden became a member of the German Union. In 1871, Baden became part of the German Empire. Grand Duke Frederick I took an active part in the creation of the German Empire. Prince Max of Baden, being the Reich Chancellor, arbitrarily and without the consent of the emperor announced his resignation.
The last Grand Duke Frederick II abdicated on 22 November 1918. After that, Baden became a republic and a free state within the Weimar Republic. Friedrich Ebert, as a famous Baden, was the first Reich President of the Weimar Republic.
