Awards Germany - Order of Zäringer Löwen chest star to 1st class commander with swords
The chest star depicted here to the commander of the 1st class with swords is the second oldest class of the Order of the Zeringen Lion, awarded with swords for excellent behavior in front of the enemy since 1866. Beginning in 1879, sword ornaments could be worn alongside the higher civilian rank. If the holder of the order was awarded the Zäringer Löwen military order of Karl Friedrich for merit, he also received swords for the order of Zäringer Löwen.
Grand Duke Karl Friedrich established this order on December 26, 1812, in the name day of his wife Stephanie. The statutes of the order were issued only on June 17, 1840 by the Grand Duke Ludwig. The foundation of the 2nd Order of the House was proposed back in 1809 by the hereditary Grand Duke Karl. The elementary 3 classes, Grand Cross, Commander and Knight, were supplemented in 1840 by the commander of the 2nd class. Commanders of the 1st class additionally received a 4-beam chest star made of silver with an order cross of gold assigned to it. At the end of World War I, the cross was covered with silver. Oak foliage could be added to all classes for special merits. From 1877 to 1896, the Knights of the Order of Berthold I were led as the upper class. In 1889, the Merit Cross was added. In 1815, golden oak foliage with a letter was donated. The gold chain of the order has been awarded since 1868 and has been introduced by statute since 1889. In 1896, the knights became in the 1st and 2nd Class divided and the Order of Bertold I now existed independently.
The 1st class commander, and therefore the breast star, was awarded only 82 times. Of these, 53 awards were presented during the First World War.
Four-beam star made of silver. 4 beams consist of 5 graduated individual beams bordered laterally by shorter lines. Between the 4 beams are so-called ornamented chip segments. On the front side there is a golden order cross. It is attached by a star body to four rays. Behind the medallion of the order cross, between the cross sleeves there are 2 crossed, gold, antique swords. They overlap the chip segments. The reverse is smooth with a perpendicular pin with a mating hook.

- The inner sides of the sacrum are enameled with green translucent.
- Below it, a diamond hatch is visible.
In the - center is a large round central shield on the outside with a raised twisted edge.

- Below are 2 tied, green enameled laurel branches with 4 leaves and fruits each.
- Inside, the ring is bounded by a gold, winding border.
In - a closed field, a round tower enamels the ruins of the Zähringen family castle.
- It is in red upper and lateral green foliage. Below is a green bottom with 3 stones.
- Background (sky) in very bright blue.
Downside:
- Smooth and silver. In the center is a round lining.
