German Awards - Service Award for Non-Commissioned Officers and Soldiers 1. Class 1831 buckle
Awards for non-commissioned officers and soldiers were established on February 18, 1831 by the Grand Duke Leopold.
At the same time, for officers from 1846 in the 2nd grade for 40 years with a crown and for 25 years without a crown, a gilded service award cross was donated. Service awards for non-commissioned officers and soldiers were in the form of a buckle and were awarded 3 classes from the sergeant major below. 1st class was awarded for 25 years, 2nd class for 18 in silver, and 3rd class for 12 years of faithful service in iron. The years of the war were doubly counted, and when moving to the gendarmerie, years were counted. Years of service in a foreign country were not counted. Upon reaching a higher class, the buckles had to be returned. With the fund, the awarding of the medal of the military Karl Friedrich Order for years of service was discontinued. Since 1840, military officials have also received these service awards. After the military convention of 1868 with Prussia, this form of service distinction was no longer awarded. The manufacturer of buckles was P. Willert from Karlsruhe, since 1842 I. Teuber from Karlsruhe.
