The badge of honor for members of voluntary fire brigades was established by decree on December 21, 1877 of the Grand Duke Frederick I. The awards were awarded to members of the voluntary fire brigade who served 25 years in the same army. The service life was to be continuous. Wartime was set off. The badge of honor could continue to be worn even after active service in the fire department and was not refundable. The manufacturer was the court jeweler Ludwig Birch from Karlsruhe. The award day was annually the birthday of the Grand Duke. In 1898, the award was supplemented by a medal for 40 years of service. There are buckles with a round and flat needle. The size varies slightly. Source: J. Nimmergut, Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen bis 1945, vol. I, 1997.
