The principality arose in 1697 from the Thuringian county of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. The capital was Rudolstadt. The ruling clan of the counts of Schwarzburg. The national colors are blue and white. In 1807, she became a member of the Rhine Union under Napoleon, and since 1815 - the German Union.
