The Medal of Merit was established by Prince Gunther on February 8, 1899 in 2 degrees: gold (gilded with silver) and silver.
Together with this medal, the Medal of Recognition was established. The Medal of Merit was awarded for outstanding achievements in art and science, trade and trade, and agriculture. The Medal of Recognition was awarded for commendable acts and good services. On August 21, 1917, a patch with the inscription 1917 was presented for both medals. It was awarded as a special award to persons who in wartime earned special merits by dedicated work, good merit and other commendable deeds for the benefit of the Fatherland. The tie has the shape of a tape bent down. The ends are rolled down to the center. The tape has enlarged polished edges. The inside is finely ornamented with an enlarged polished number - 1917. -.
