Germany Awards - 1st Class Cross with Swords and Crown
Cross of Honor 1 shown here. The Sword and Crown Class is the highest class awarded since 1901 for services to the enemy. The 1st Class Crown of Honor was established on August 30, 1901 in Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and October 30, 1901 in Schwarzburg-Sondershausen. The principalities made up the principles of awarding the crown. Military personnel must have the rank of major general. Prior to this, the award was to take place without a crown. In addition, colonels could receive the Cross of Honor with a crown if they owned the 1st class Cross without a crown for at least five years. Civilians had the title of actual privy councilors, heads of departments of the ministry, if they also owned a cross without a crown for at least 5 years. The presented cross is made of silver with gilding and dates from the end of World War I. The swords donated by 1870/71 were updated on August 21, 1914 for the 1st World War. Since 1915, military awards were no longer subject to return. Until 1915, crosses were made of gold.
Eight-pointed cross made of gilded silver. The cruciform arms are enameled in white and sheathed in gold. Front and back sides with false oval medallion. 2 ancient swords with Roman parire wands pass through the center. On the upper cruciform shoulder between the peaks is an ornamented segment with an attached golden princely hat (crown). A ribbon ring passes through the imperial apple.
