Awards Germany - German States - Frankfurt - Free City

The city of Frankfurt (on the Main) was a free imperial city until 1806. Since 1806, Frankfurt was a member of the Rhine Union. February 16, 1810 under the rule of Napolion Frankfurt was elevated to the Grand Duchy. The Grand Duchy included the city of Frankfurt, the principalities of Aschaffenburg, Ganau and Fulda, as well as the city of Wetzlar. The Grand Duke was Karl Theodor von Dalberg, who renounced in 1813 in favor of Beauharnais. After the Congress of Vienna, Frankfurt became a free city again. In 1866, Frankfurt joined the Austrians. The result was conquest and incorporation into Prussia on 18 October 1866. The highest order of the city and the Grand Duchy was the Order of Concordia. Military orders are very rare because of the short time.
