Service awards for the line military of Frankfurt were established on December 15, 1840 by decision of the Senate. Simultaneously with the service award cross of officers, service award crosses were established for non-commissioned officers, sailors and soldiers. They were awarded after 25, 15 and 10 years of service. To calculate the years of service, the following was valid: the war years and the year of possible injury were counted twice. Years of service in foreign services were not counted. An additional salary of 2 guilders was associated with the award. Crosses were subject to return in case of death or promotion. Due to wear in 1847, the reverse stamps were redone. The result was slight deviations. The first crosses and stamps were made by the mint master Tomschütz from Frankfurt. The stamps were updated by the Nassau medalist Zollman from Wiesbaden. Non-commissioned officers and soldiers who served in Frankfurt for more than 10 years were eligible for free inclusion in Frankfurt citizenship.
