This military commemorative coin was established by a decision of the Senate of the Free City of Frankfurt on September 15, 1846. After the dissolution of the Grand Duchy, under Prince Primate Karl Theodore, in 1815, members of the line and landver troops who entered the service of the Free City turned to the Senate with a request to receive a memorial sign for the year 1814 of the war. The commandant of the city, Colonel Schiller, on April 17, 1816, asked the Senate to award the Shaar Volunteer Medal also Linear and Landwehr. Other requests were also denied. The reason was that the inscription on the medal was unsuitable for awarding. On June 26, 60 combat veterans again asked the Senate. 84 fighters presented concerns to the Senate. After that, it was decided to approve the silver medal. Diplomas and award certificates are dated October 20, 1846. For minting, a 1 guilder coin stamp was used as an obverse. The rear stamp was made by the Frankfurt coin medallist Tomschütz. During the rental, 84 veterans of the former 3 line and landver battalions still lived. They were probably also full petitioners in the Senate. From this follows the figure of 84 pieces.
