Awards of Germany - Military commemorative coin 1814/1815 for non-commissioned officers and soldiers (Gotha-Altenburg)
The award was established in the fall of 1816 by Duke Augustus of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg for officers, non-commissioned officers and privates who in 1814 and 1815 were part of the contingent opposing Napoleon. The Altenburg contingent, as a member of the Rhine Union, was combined with the contingents of the rest of the duchies of the Ernestine House in the "regiment of the dukes of Saxony." From 1807 to 1813, troops still fought on the side of France. After the battle of the peoples near Leipzig, Duke Augustus joined the Allies. The Duke assembled a new contingent. It consisted of a line battalion, a Landwehr battalion consisting of 51 officers and 2,354 soldiers. They were joined by 104 hunters with 5 officers and 62 hunters on horseback. The award for non-commissioned officers will also be shown here. Here the inscription and all the elevated parts are gilded. The base is painted dark green. This award was also established for officers, as completely gilded. When performed for soldiers, only the font is gilded. Awards began in 1817 and were regulated by the Military College. Deserters and dishonest people were suspended from the award. A certificate of ownership was issued for the presentation. Medals were subject to return. 86 medals were made for officers, 233 copies for non-commissioned officers, and 2033 medals for soldiers. There are also abbreviations of 32 and 29 mm.
