This medal was established on January 4, 1818 by Duke Alexy of Anhalt-Bernburg. The military memorial sign was awarded only to fighters from 1814 to 1815 of the Bernburg contingent. Anhalt-Bernburg fought against Napoleon only from 1814. The duchy allocated 1 battalion with 2 linear and 2 landver companies, which were attached to the Anhaltin-Thuringian brigade. The strength of the unit was 15 officers and 494 soldiers. After the liberation wars, the creation of a commemorative coin was stimulated by the Military Commission. The seal for the medal was created by D. Loos from Berlin. The medals were cast by Philipp Mothard in Berlin, who supplied 610. Another 50 medals were cast in 1818 at the cottage of Myagdesprung. Medals vary slightly in size and weight from different manufacturers. By October 29, 1820, 621 medals were awarded to officers and maneuvers of the Bernburg contingent. In 1831 and 1841, medals were awarded to non-Bernburg officers who requested it. The award continued until 1841. A total of 624 awards have been proven.
