The regiment was formed in 1682 for the Kurbarian army under the name "Degenfeld on Foot" under the command of Elector Max Emanuel. In the 19th century, the 2nd Infantry Regiment was called the Kronprinz, because the owners of the regiment, along with the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, were the Kurprins, and later the Crown Princes. So, among other things, they called the "2nd Grenadier Regiment of Kurprinets," "Fusilier Regiment of Kurprinets" and "2nd Line Infantry Regiment of Kurprinets."
