This badge of honor was established on December 8, 1883 by the Grand Duke Ludwig IV. donated. Credit must be given to firefighters serving in the volunteer fire brigade after 25 years of dedicated and deserved activity.
After World War I, this award was presented by the state of Hesse since 1923 in a slightly modified form. Tape 5 x dark red and 4 x white. Subsequently, a badge of honor for 40 years was established for the badge of honor for 25 years. The buckle next to the coat of arms of Hesse depicts the number 40 and, in addition, is surrounded by a golden oak wreath tied with a double loop. This badge of honor is very rare. Gold-plated bronze buckle with raised smooth edges. Applied to a metal plate covered with an order ribbon. Angles in the form of extended quadrangles in the center of which there is an elevated, large point. In the center, the edge above and below is also extended outward. In the upper part of the rectangle there are 2 crossed and connected by an ax loop. Loop ribbons wrap around the hatchets below. A fire helmet rests on the stems of the ax. At the back is a horizontal pin.
