The Military Merit Cross was established on October 23, 1914 by Duke Ernst August and initially consisted only of Odnoklassniki. Awarded without distinction of rank and rank for merit in the world war. A prerequisite was Braunschweig citizenship and possession of the Iron Cross. On November 17, 1915, a Cross was established for non-combatants for services not related to hostilities. The 1st class cross was established on March 20, 1918. The prerequisite for this was repeated distinguished service in the war and advanced possession of the 2nd class. By the end of the war, bronze crosses were also made of military metal. Simultaneously with the cross of the 1st class, the Probation Mark was established for the 2nd class. A prerequisite was the use of weapons in the combat zone for at least 2 years. At the same time, 2 months were counted as sick leave or home leave. Starting in 1918, 2 years of front-line service could also be calculated from several periods together. All specimens were always made of iron. Cotter pins soldered to the edge. Specimens that are silver-plated and made of another material, such as bronze, are private secondary pieces. Cotter pins soldered to the center are also indications for later details.
Hollow relief sign made of iron sheet. Behind 2 flat cotter pins for attaching to the order ribbon.
