This sign was established on January 27, 1914 by the Kaiser and King William II. donated. This award was awarded by the General Inspectorate of Military Transport to observer officers. The requirements for the award were: 1) traveled distance of at least 1000 km by plane, 2) successfully passed the technical assistance exam by plane, 3) passed at least one repeated exam, 4) completed reconnaissance tasks and 5) received a certificate of qualification of an observer officer.
Silver and non-ferrous metal badges were made, silver-plated. These are hollow clogged or hollow embossed. In later productions, the square support is soldered and no longer clamped.
High oval sign made of hollow welded silver. Front - embossed enameled square. Behind the lining with a radial wreath. A vertical pin is used for fastening.
