This honorary sign of the fire department was established on February 14, 1931 by the district association of the Palatinate in Bavaria. Despite the fact that the district association was a member of the Bavarian Land Union of Fire Services, it established its own honorary badges.
The Palatinate Cross was awarded in recognition of merits in the Palatinate fire department.
In addition to the badge of honor presented here, 2 more awards of the district association are known. The Fire Service Cross of Honour was awarded for distinguished service and is silver with partially enamelled cross sleeves and a circular laurel and oak wreath. The front medallion is gilded. The reverse, by analogy with this cross, is only silver. The second award is the Fire Department's 50-year Honorary Cross. This is by design, but on the front side it bears the number 50 in the medallion. Awards are very rare due to the small territory and short award period.
