Like other Red Cross land associations, the Mecklenburg Land Union established honorary badges for many years of loyalty to service. Crosses were presented for 10, 25, and 40 years of faithful service. The cross presented here is silver-plated for 10 years and wears the number of the year 10 on a laurel wreath. Crosses for 25 and 40 years old have white enameled cross arms and are silver-plated or gilded, respectively, and have a year of 25 or 40 on the wreath. The exact order or date of establishment is unknown. But it can be assumed that this is a special celebration of the founding of the Union. The Mecklenburg Red Cross Land Society established the Merit Cross in a different form. The manufacturer was Godet Berlin, which also produced the crosses of the Lipp and Prussian land unions, to name a few. The shape and design of the crosses are identical. The difference lies in the laid medallion of the front side. The Mecklenburg Red Cross Land Union was founded on March 28, 1899. The forerunners of the organization were the Central Society for the Care of Wounded and Sick Warriors, founded back in 1864. In 1869, it was renamed the Mecklenburg Land Association with that name. Women's club "Marien" is also in tradition. Due to the club's small size and rental time, crosses are rare. Source: Manfred Schemeit, Badge of Honor of the German Red Cross 1866-present, 1989.
