The Prince Regent Luitpold Medal with Crown was instituted ahead of the Regent's 90th birthday on 24 February 1911. They were awarded as higher degrees already established on June 30, 1905, the medal of Prince Regent Luitpold. This medal was awarded "from their own movement" by commoners who, through their activities, loyally and firmly stood on the side of the royal house. Those employed were from all fields, such as military clubs, craftsmen, lower civil servants and officials, forestry workers, artists, as well as the military. The medal was awarded in 3 stages of gold, silver and bronze. Gold medals were awarded only to persons very close to the regent. When awarding a medal with a crown, the previous possession of a medal donated in 1905 was considered a prerequisite, to the same extent. When the Prince Regent was awarded the Luitpold Medal with a crown, the medal awarded in 1905 was subject to return. A distinctive feature is the laurel branch on the front side. Medals with a crown have this fruit, medals without a crown have laurel branches without fruits.
