February 24, 1911 Founding of the Crown Medal
- Material: Bronze
- Size: 32.3mm x 63.6mm
- Weight: about 24g
The medal was established on 30 June 1905 by Prince Regent Luitpold. This medal was awarded "from their own movement" by commoners who, through their activities, loyally and firmly stood on the side of the royal house. Those employed were from all fields, such as military clubs, craftsmen, lower civil servants and officials, forestry workers, artists, as well as the military. The medal was awarded in 3 stages bronze, silver and gold. Gold medals were awarded only to persons very close to the regent. On the occasion of the approaching 90th anniversary, the regent established the crown as the highest step of the medal. The crown medal was awarded mainly to individuals who already held the award without a crown to the appropriate degree. A distinctive feature on the obverse is the laurel branch, which on medals with a crown has fruits, in contrast to medals without a crown. There are not enough fruits.
The author of the project is Adolf von Hildebrand.
