This medal was instituted on 30 June 1930 by Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria. He was the patron saint of the Union of Warriors of the Palatinate. The award of the order and the award of the medal on behalf of the Crown Prince was made by the President of the Palatinate Union of Warriors, Baron zu Guttenberg. Only members of the Union who distinguished themselves during the occupation of the Palatinate by the Patriotic operation and in the fight against separatists were awarded. As a result of World War I, the Palatinate was occupied by French troops, but continued to belong to Bavaria. In 1923-1924, separatist movements took place, culminating in the proclamation of an autonomous Palatinate, but they did not survive. A prerequisite was personal participation or a leading, responsible position in the union of warriors or special merits in the defensive struggle. Persons outside the federation were awarded only in exceptional cases. The design of the medal was developed by Professor Theodor George from Munich. Medals were awarded on the occasion of the "Call of the Palatinate Warriors" on September 6 and 7, 1930 in Landau. The circulation is about 500 pieces.
