German Awards - 1911 Fire Service Medal
The medal was instituted by Grand Duke Frederick Augustus on 1 November 1911. Members of the Oldenburg Organized Fire Brigade were awarded for many years and faithful performance of duties or for particularly outstanding achievements. Where there was little merit in severe fires or accidents, the medal could also be awarded to senior firefighters after at least 25 years of service or to firefighters who could demonstrate appropriate merit with at least 15 years of diligence and faithful performance of duty.
The medal maker was Bernhard Knauer Hofgoldschmid of Oldenburg.
Round medal in gold bronze with a border. On top is a soldered eye with a ribbon ring.
Front side:
- Under the large crown are intertwined letters - F - A -.
Downside:
A - short distance from the edge from above is an open wreath of 2 oak deciduous branches.
- They intersect at the bottom and are connected by a large loop.
- In the embedded field there is an inscription in 4 lines: - FOR -/- MERIT -/
- - IN - THE -/- FIRE PROTECTION -
