German awards - 40 years in public and municipal service

The cross was presented by Prince Regent Luitpold on the occasion of his upcoming 90th birthday. Awarding received citizens who for 40 years conscientiously and with honor served in state, court, church or community service. Excluded from the award were persons who were in the Order of Ludwig, holders of the award for military service 1. Class and contender for this service distinction cross. Pensioners who also worked for 40 years during their service subsequently received this award. Crosses were minted at the Munich Mint.

Matte gold bronze cross. The transverse shoulders are straight with raised wide edges. The inner sides are smooth. Front and back panels with round center screen (17 mm). On the upper cruciform shoulder is a wide ear with a ribbon ring.
