The Royal Order of the House of Hohenzollern was established on 18 January 1851, the 150th anniversary of its founding. Day of the coronation of Frederick I as the first Prussian king. This happened as a result of the state treaty of 1849. Since then, the Order of Hohenzollern consists of 2 orders. 1st - the princely house order of Hohenzollern and 2nd - the royal house order of the kings of Prussia. Both orders exist independently of each other.
The Royal Order of the House of Hohenzollern is divided into two departments of the Cross and the Eagle, each of which is awarded in three classes (Grosscomtur, Komtur and Knight). The 4th class of holders was only added in 1861 for both departments. Another addition was the star for Grosscomture and Comture, donated on October 18, 1861. The class of eagles was assigned mainly to civilians such as teachers and clergy. Awards were most often made by an honored public servant upon retirement. Both squads of crosses and eagles could be worn side by side. Upon reaching a higher class inside the compartment, the lower one had to be removed. Eagles of knights are made hollow and consist of 2 parts. Early works by court jeweler Hossauer are enameled on one side and slightly curved. The later parts are flat and enamelled on both sides. Until 1916, knight eagles were made of gold. Gilt silver pieces were also made. No other materials were used. After the death of the fed eagle was to be returned.
