The memorial cross was established on June 1, 1862 by Prince Adolf Georg Schaumburg-Lippsky. The cross was awarded in recognition and memory of the fighters of the principality who fought in 1849 in Schleswig and Jutland. In the German-Danish war, Schaumburg-Lippe had only one rifle company in the German contingent.
Production was handled by J.Godet & Sohn in Berlin.
The memorial cross was awarded only 166 times. 2 crosses were awarded with a modified inscription - FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE. There are also crosses in gilded white metal. These are not trial and, possibly, private secondary units.
Cross made of bronze. The raised-edged crosses are rounded at the ends. Lying inside, on a flat bottom, at a short distance raised, smooth edging. Front and back large, embossed, round medallion. On the upper cruciform shoulder is an ordinary ear with a ribbon ring.
