This commemorative medal was established on April 17, 1874 by Duke Ernst I. The occasion was a celebration of memory on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the assault on the Düppel springboards on April 13, 1849. Combat veterans appealed to the duke to give them a memorial sign. The Saxe-Altenburg troops consisted of one mobile Fusilier battalion of 4 companies and one jaeger company. Among them were 16 officers and 872 soldiers. Altenburg soldiers, officers, doctors, non-commissioned officers and commanders who participated in the Schleswig-Holstein campaign and made themselves worthy of their leadership were awarded. They had to submit their claims in writing to the ducal Saxon ministry in the Department of Military Affairs. Charters were not issued. The presentation took place with a certificate of ownership. The medal was not refundable. A total of 654 medals were awarded.
Round medal made of gilded bronze with a raised border. An ordinary eye with a ribbon ring is soldered on top.
