This commemorative medal was established on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the 1st Hanover Infantry Regiment No. 74, probably with the permission of the German Emperor Wilhelm II. Many regiments minted such commemorative medals for the anniversary. Especially after the 1900 before the outbreak of World War I, many units celebrated their 100th anniversary. As a rule, they were installed in 1813 in the war against Napoleon in the liberation wars. These anniversaries were often celebrated with large celebrations, where such commemorative medals were awarded to the participants of the celebration. Medals were often ordered by the head of the regiment with the permission of William II. Commander-in-chief of the army and the German emperor. The manufacturer was very often Xp. Lauer is from Nuremberg, who specialized in these medals.
The regiment stands in the tradition of the Hanoverian infantry, which was dug in 1813 for Hanover in the War of Liberation and fought in the battles of Waterloo and Langensalza. Regiment No. 74 itself was formed in Danzig in September 1866 from the remnants of these units and East Prussian units and was originally stationed in Cologne. November 27, 1813 was established as the day of establishment. In 1867, excavations were carried out in the Hanover area. During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, the regiment fought in Spicheren, Belfort, Metz and Montmedy, and 1873 in Hanover. In World War I, the regiment fought alternately in the West and East. The battle scene was Liège, Reims, Marne, Aisne and Verdun. In January 1919, the regiment was disbanded. The tradition was adopted by the 6th company of the 16th Infantry Regiment in Hanover.
