A memorial badge for merits in extinguishing the fire was awarded on June 15, 1908 by the Kaiser and King William II. donated. Persons who distinguished themselves as serviceable members of the organized, Prussian fire brigade could be awarded for at least 25 years with loyalty and zeal and groundless service in the field of fire extinguishing. In addition, persons who deservedly earned money on extinguishing a fire could be awarded an honorary badge. At the same time, the established service life and belonging to a particular defense were not mandatory. The fire department badge of honor was awarded by the Minister of the Interior on the orders of the emperor and the king. The project is based on a drawing of the Secret Government Council of Gersdorf.
Since 1916, by decree of 27.10.1916, the Badge of Honor was made of military metal. Due to the very short rental period, zinc badges are several times less frequent and, accordingly, more expensive.
