German Awards - Weimar Republic "Freikorps

Orders and honorary signs of freikor are a popular and special area of collecting within the framework of phaleristics.
After World War I, so-called free corps formed from mostly dissatisfied and dismissed officers and front-line soldiers who could not imagine civilian life and wanted to continue to serve the defense of the Motherland. In the post-war revolutionary turmoil and in contrast to the soldiers' councils and revolutionaries, freikors at the beginning of the Weimar Republic were also available as the armed forces of the new government to maintain state order. However, most Free Corps treated this government rather detached or hostile. For example, the Ehrhardt Marine Brigade took an active part in the Kapp-Lüttwitz Putsch of 1920.
The commanders of the Volunteer Corps also established numerous orders and badges of honor for their soldiers, which were supposed to show special achievements, participation in battles or belonging to the Volunteer Corps.
After the establishment of a regular military force, Freikorps' period of existence ended by 1923.
