Germany Awards - Dibic Free Corps Medal for Good Horse Care

The Medal for the Care of Good Horses was probably also donated around 1919 by Lieutenant Colonel Freiherr Karl Heinrich von Diebitsch, commander of the Freikorps. The award was for the care of horses in the freikorps. The corps included about 600 horses. It already shows the importance of looking after and looking after horses that have made a big contribution to mobility. The exact number of awards is unknown to me. Estimates suggest between 100 and 150 awards. Paul Meybauer, Militareffekten und Orden Fabrik, Berlin is known as a manufacturer.
The commander, Lieutenant Colonel von Dibich, established a total of 5 awards: the Dibich cross was awarded in the 2nd grade, the Malplake star, the ladies' loop to the star and the medal for good care of horses.
The volunteer corps was formed on April 1, 1919, mainly from the remnants of the Saxon Landwehr. Among them are the MG company, parts of the Jaeger squadron on horse No. 8. The composition is indicated from 38 officers, 210 non-commissioned officers and 700 soldiers. They were structured into 4 infantry companies, an artillery battery and a reconnaissance detachment. About 600 horses, 120 cars and 93 bicycles. The volunteer corps was used mainly in Lithuania/Courland for the protection of communication lines, such as railways in the area. Later it was also used in the border guard in Silesia. It was disbanded on 18 December 1919 or in April 1920. The volunteer corps was included in the 102nd Reichswehr Infantry Regiment.
Donated copies are made of silver. There are also silver-plated bronze medals. But this is rather secondary production. The medal is also the subject of a forgery.

• Above the lower 3 rays of the gardestern is a curved font ribbon with raised edges.
• The ends with 2 peaks are decorated on the right with laurel foliage with fruits, and on the left with oak foliage.
• On the curved middle part there is a raised font - FREIKORPS - v.- DIEBICH -.
• The lower ray of the gardestern is visible in the center under the ribbon.

Tape:

yellow 25 mm wide, edges 5 mm, 3 stripes black 2 mm each, intermediate stripes yellow 3 mm.
