German Awards - Honorary Cross of the Honorary Union of Saxon Participants in the World War in Chemnitz
The Honorary Union of Saxon Participants in the World War in Chemnitz after the First World War established this honorary cross in memory of the war. The club also instituted 2 enameled merit crosses with golden swords through the center. One cross is covered with white enamel and has a wrapped gold crown on top. Another cross is light blue enameled without a crown. It can be assumed that white crosses with a crown were of a higher class than a blue cross. The presented cross has no inscription - For Merit - and was safely issued to members of the association.
These commemorative crosses were issued after World War I by many warrior unions. After the 1st World War, there was no state award in memory of the war.
Thus, these alliances often created very attractive commemorative crosses and even knight's crosses for soldiers who served in the war in their alliance. Awarding with swords, as a rule, was carried out by front-line soldiers.
These crosses were issued by the association but had to be paid for by the carrier itself. At that time it was very expensive and therefore very rare today and also expensive.
