The history of Bavarian warrior clubs dates back to 1786, when the first warrior club was founded in Ayinga. After 1805, the reservists created new clubs. Military alliances gained further growth after the liberation wars of 1815, when mostly former soldiers of certain regiments united. As in all of Germany, a great rise began after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. In 1873, the "German Union of Warriors" was founded in the Prussian and annexed regions. At the same time, the "Bavarian Union of Warriors" was founded in Bavaria, which a year later became the "Bavarian Union of Veterans and Warriors." In 1877, the club was replaced by the "Bavarian Union of Veterans, Warriors and Comrades in Arms" (BVKKB). By 1900, the association had 2,250 regional clubs with about 150,000 members. In 1908 it was renamed the "Bavarian Union of Veterans and Warriors."
The federal badge of honor presented here was awarded after 1918 by the Bavarian Union of Warriors to honored members.
