This medal was established on October 18, 1938 by decree of the Fuhrer and Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler as a recognition of the merits of "reuniting the Sudeten German territories" with the German Empire. As a result of internal unrest and German pressure, the Czech government accepted the offer of a concession from England and France. In the Munich Agreement of September 30, 1938, the governments of England, France and Italy determined the concession of the Sudetenland. On October 1, 1938, the territory was captured by German troops. The medal was awarded mainly to Sudeten German fighters, wounded and survivors. The servicemen of the Wehrmacht, the volunteer corps of Konrad Henlein, the police and the party, as well as related units, also distinguished themselves. Officials of the overpass and occupation authorities, as well as other honored persons, were also awarded. There are also known cases of awarding women. The relevant documents were drawn up by the Minister of State for the Interior and the Chief of the Office of the President. Wehrmacht servicemen received a document from the Wehrmacht. Medals were not refundable.
