The Medal for Merit in Saving from Danger was established on August 8, 1845 by King Ernst Augustus. This award was awarded to compatriots who, regardless of the danger threatening them, with their decisive and courageous behavior saved the lives or property of others or contributed exceptional efforts to this.
The medal was made in 2 coins. The 1st coinage (1845-1846) comes from the Fikenscher medalist with a smaller Stifter head and bears the inscription - FICKENSCHER - under the neck. Other distinguishing features include a smaller loop on the back and deviations in the wreath. The 2nd embossing comes from Bremer and shows a large pin head. Under the neck, the section stands - BREMBER - and the hinge on the back is larger. All awarded medals have the name and surname of the holder on the rim and are thus unique. Source: J.
