This unofficial award was established in 1916 at the regimental level of reserve infantry regiment No. 81 (Frankfurt am Main). The reason was the extremely bloody battle for the Suvil Heights on August 1, 1916 and the subsequent defense of the captured positions. At the Battle of Verdun, the 21st Reserve Division launched an attack on the Suville bow. The 81st and 88th stormed the French positions. He headed the reserve infantry regiment (Ganau, Mainz and Worms). The regiments recorded 1,150 dead and about 5,400 wounded and missing. As a souvenir, both regiments established awards, 81.R.I.R the oak braces shown here and the Suville 88.R.I.R button. Despite its unofficial nature, wearing was tolerable. The award took place with a diploma. In part, the award was also noted in military passports. Worn on the left side of the uniform. Braces are found both with and without the manufacturer. The manufacturer is L. CHR. BRANCH OF LAUER NUERNBERG. BERLIN S.V. RITTERSTR. 46 known. In the case of parts manufactured by the manufacturer, they must be on a metal plate for attaching a safety needle. You can only speculate about the issuance numbers. It can be assumed that the salary itself should have been paid. The rarity also suggests that not every eligible person received a screed.
The clasp is made of a substitute material (zinc alloy) in the form of an oak sheet. Behind - a safety needle applied by means of a small sheet.
