The Medal of Arts and Sciences, originally donated by Duke Ernst I on December 30, 1874, was established after Duke Ernst II took office. with a different embossing. As before, citizens who received merits in the field of art and science were awarded. Medals were awarded in 2 stages in gold (silver gold) or in silver. For special services, these two stages were expanded and awarded the crown. Crowns are suspended in band ring by invisible hinge. Crown dimensions 22 mm x 24 mm. Crowns are made of appropriate material and matte. The design was made by sculptor Julie Gente from Leipzig. Medals in Dresden were minted by Glazer and his son.
